Terrifying Sculptures by Mark Jenkins

Imagine walking around the corner and seeing one of these. American artist Mark Jenkins is fond of installing sculptures in public that hurtle you screaming into the uncanny valley.

‘Roly poly’, designed by the Design Incubation Centre at the National University of Singapore, are a pair of egg-like objects that mirror each other’s movements, even when physically separated. Two people thus can sense each other’s presence despite distances across the world: a tap of one half will create a simultaneous reaction in the other.

We always see our worst selves. Our most vulnerable selves. We need someone else to get close enough to tell us we’re wrong. Someone we trust.
I feel like talking always brings us closer to understanding, rather than dividing us. It can be tough, it can be a little nauseating, we don’t always have the right vocabulary to talk across our differences, but the talking is always better than the ignoring.

It was a Muslim who realized that light ENTERS our eyes, unlike the Greeks who thought we EMITTED rays, and so invented a camera from this discovery.
It was a Muslim who first tried to FLY in 852, even though it is the Wright Brothers who have taken the credit.
It was a Muslim by the name of Jabir ibn Hayyan who was known as the founder of modern Chemistry. He transformed alchemy into chemistry. He invented: distillation, purification, oxidation, evaporation, and filtration. He also discovered sulfuric and nitric acid.
It is a Muslim, by the name of Al-Jazari who is known as the father of robotics.
It was a Muslim who was the architect for Henry V’s castle.
It was a Muslim who invented hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes, a technique still used today.
It was a Muslim who actually discovered inoculation, not Jenner and Pasteur to treat cowpox. The West just brought it over from Turkey
It was Muslims who contributed much to mathematics like Algebra and Trigonometry, which was imported over to Europe 300 years later to Fibonnaci and the rest.
It was Muslims who discovered that the Earth was round 500 years before Galileo did.
The list goes on………..
Just imagine a world without Muslims. Now I think you probably meant, JUST IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT TERRORISTS. And then I would agree, the world would definitely be a better place without those pieces of filth. But to hold a whole group responsible for the actions of a few is ignorant and racist. No one would ever expect Christians or White people to be held responsible for the acts of Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bombing) or Andreas Brevik (Norway killing), or the gun man that shot Congresswoman Giffords in head, wounded 12 and killed 6 people, and rightly so because they had nothing to do with those incidents! Just like the rest of the 1.5 billion Muslims have nothing to do with this incident!

BURN :)

 Forever reblog.

This is so brilliant that the only thing I can add is a semi-useless fact:
If you ever study astronomy, you’ll notice that many stars begin with the letters “Al.”  As in Aldebaran, Algol, Albireo, Alkaid, Alphecca, Algenib, Alpheratz…I could go on.  Why?  Because it’s an Arabic prefix.  While Europe was languishing in the dark ages, Muslim astronomers were mapping the skies and giving the stars names.

And of course, a lot of the accumulated “western” knowledge of the classical age is only around because it was preserved by Muslims.

Imagine a world without asshole bigots and terrorism.

Oh god, this is a breath of fresh air compared to my house. My dad thinks there’s no such thing as Islamophobia because “phobias have to be irrational”.

Reblogging this again.

man I sure do love ignorant racist shit like this proven wrong.
I looove you tumblr.

That fact dump was so good I think I came.
Also I love how racists always conveniently leave out the fact that there were Muslims who lived in NYC and worked in the world trade center, and were killed just the same by those attacks.

THIS.

I’d like to imagine a world without racists/Islamophobes.

I’m really sick of seeing so many people so depressed and so upset. I’m so tired of seeing “no one loves me”, “no one will ever love me”, “my parents hate me and i have no friends”, and “no one cares about me”. It fucking upsets me because it’s undeserved. It’s completely undeserved, and it’s sad to see how many people have lost sight of what life really is. So many of you lose touch with who you are, and what your life really is. Maybe you don’t know who you are, maybe you do. It doesn’t matter, because your life is still your life. You can still be who you want to be. Do you know why you’re upset? Because, chances are, you’re trying to please someone who isn’t you. Chances are, you’re living your life for someone else. Chances are, you take the insults people throw at you to heart. Chances are, you let your parents get to you when they’re not so nice to you. Chances are, you don’t give yourself a break and realize that you’re simply a human being. Chances are, you don’t stop and take everything in once in awhile. When you wake up, do you understand how beautiful just that is? You woke up. You are alive. Every day is a new day, a clean slate. Every day is something to be cherished, simply because it is different than the day before. Every day is what you make of it. You can make it a challenge. You can let words get to you, you can let people get to you. You can have another bad day, you can keep telling yourself that you’re alone and that no one cares. Or you can realize that hey, maybe things aren’t as bad as I make them out to be. Maybe I’m alive, and maybe that’s good enough for once. Maybe I’ll stand up to the people who throw shit at me, maybe I’ll stand up for myself. Because maybe, I deserve that. Your life is your life. There’s always someone out there who loves you, or will love you. Things aren’t always sunny and beautiful, but they could always be ten times worse. Let go of everything that’s dragging you down. Let go of the person you give all your attention to. Give that attention, give the care, to yourself. Let people who want to care in. Wake up every morning and realize that your life is only as bad as you make it seem, and soon you’ll wake up realizing that there are plenty of reasons to be happy when life gives you a million to cry.
